Tracking Sharks For Conservation
Information about Adriatic Sea sharks is often scarce and incomplete. Nevertheless, a marked decline of these species has been provided on the basis of the available data, supported by scientific studies, and from the experience of the fishermen.
Hence, the idea of Tracking Sharks For Conservation: an action during which fishermen located in different areas of the Adriatic Sea will host observers on board in order to gather as much data as possible. This action is included in the BYCATCH VII project.
Cooperation between science and professional or recreational fishing is ESSENTIAL: sharks caught during fishing operations will be marked by observers on board (tagging) and then, in agreement with the captain, they will be released.
